NOT ALL SPIRULINA IS LIVESPIRULINATM
DRIED SPIRULINA – in powder or pills – is a powerful supplement backed by thousands of research studies.
LIVESPIRULINA – freshly harvested unprocessed spirulina that is never heated or dried – is the most nutritionally dense functional food on earth.
LivespirulinaTM provides up to 20 times more nutrients – a small daily dose can provides complete nutrition plus a host of natural healing compounds that protect your health, counter disease, and promote healthy ageing.
Read on for a pocket history of spirulina and to learn why the LIVESPIRULINATM revolution is so important.
WHAT IS SPIRULINA?
Spirulina is a tiny microalgae with a unique blue-green colour that is almost too small to see.
It grows in water and uses 3 types of photosynthesis – blue, green, and red – to convert minerals and CO2 into a concentrated food source for carbon based life forms.
PRIMAL FOOD SOURCE
Spirulina is one of earth’s first life forms – it appeared in the ocean around 3.5 billion years ago.
At the bottom of the food chain, microalgae pass on their nutrients by being eaten by a chain of ever-larger life forms, which adapted to thrive on the rich mixture of nutrients they provide.
In this way spirulina provided nutrition to larger sea creatures, then fish and whales, dinosaurs, birds, and later to mammals and then humans.
THE GIFT OF OXYGEN
3.5 billion years ago, Earth’s atmosphere was mostly CO2 (carbon dioxide) mixed with water vapor, methane, and hydrogen.
Spirulina and other microalgae absorb CO2 and use the carbon, releasing Oxygen.
Over a period of around a billion years – a period called the Great Oxidation Event – they released enough oxygen to terraform earth and created our oxygen-rich blue sky atmosphere that enables carbon based life forms to thrive.
Microalgae still produce around 20% of earth’s oxygen today.
HUMANS FIRST DRIED SPIRULINA
Early humans filtered naturally growing spirulina in fine nets and baskets and sun dried it to preserve the delicate microalgae which otherwise spoiled quickly.
Prized for its healing properties it was traded across the ancient world and used in many medicinal systems.
Aztec runners who carried government communication over thousands of miles carried spirulina biscuits for energy.
To this day wild spirulina harvested in fine baskets and sun dried is an important food source in parts of Africa.
SPIRULINA REDISCOVERED
Spirulina was ‘discovered’ in Africa by a western botanist in 1965.
Research quickly revealed its incredible nutrient density and how it delivers almost every nutrient that humans need to thrive.
In 1974 the United Nations declared spirulina as “the best food for the future” at the World Food Conference, and the World Health Organization. The UN General Assembly urged members to promote the production and use of spirulina to combat hunger and malnutrition.
The World Health Organization hailed spirulina as “the most balanced, complete, and nutritious superfood on earth.”
SPIRULINA EXPLODES
International spirulina demand and production exploded, especially in China with massive government funding.
Mass farming and processing techniques were quickly developed to produce spirulina on a massive scale.
Today more than 10 million kilograms of dried spirulina is produced each year.
WHERE DOES IT GO?
Around half the dried spirulina produced is sold in powder and pills as a nutritional supplement.
The pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and food industries incorporate spirulina extracts into medical treatments, cosmetics and skin/hair care products, and food and candy products.
Dried spirulina is also used to promote fast healthy growth and prevent illness in farming fish, prawns, chickens, pigs, sheep, and cattle – and to boost fruit and vegetable crop growth.
A HEALING MIRACLE
Research in a hundred countries investigated spirulina benefits.
Spirulina’s ability to reverse malnutrition in children, babies, pregnant women and older populations within one or two months is legendary and has been documented in thousands of studies.
Hundreds of powerful natural compounds in spirulina have been shown to be effective in preventing and healing almost every human affliction, from ageing through asthma, brain health, cancers, cardiovascular health, diabetes, eye health, fertility, gut health, iron deficiency and anemia, viral infections, women’s health problems.
Spirulina has been shown to promote healthy growth, boost mental and athletic performance, remove heavy metals and radioisotopes, strengthen the immune system, and even help control obesity and promote weight loss.
THE LIVESPIRULINATM REVOLUTION
More than twenty thousand independent research studies confirm the nutrition and healing powers of dried spirulina.
In the past decade a few visionary scientists started to research the differences between dried spirulina and LIVESPIRULINA.
The incredible results: LivespirulinaTM provides hundreds of beneficial compounds that are lost during the processing and storage of dried spirulina powder or tablets.
LivespirulinaTM provides up to 8 times more nutrients and 20 times more antioxidants, anti-inflammatories, anti-cancer, and healing substances than found in dried spirulina powder or tablets.
TAKING LIVESPIRULINA
Our Institute has registered the term LIVESPIRULINATM which should only be used to describe freshly harvested washed biologically active spirulina biomass that is never heated or dried and is sold chilled or frozen.
Freshly harvested livespirulina is delicate and starts to lose nutrient and healing value within days even when refrigerated.
The best way to preserve the full nutrient and healing properties is by freezing it within hours of harvest then maintaining it frozen until it is taken – generally mixed with water, juice or in a smoothie.
